I asked AI for a deck and every one looked alike. What do I pick first?

Why AI-made decks look alike, and an order that helps: pick the layouts and the theme first, then let the AI fill in the content.

By the third deck they looked the same

Anyone who has asked an AI for a few decks on the same subject knows it. Only the titles change. Three cards in a row, center alignment on every slide, a blue palette. A few slides in, you get the feeling you have seen this deck before. That is not because the AI is weak. It is because nobody gave it a template. With none, it fills in the most common shape.

Change the order and the result changes

Before you say "make a ten-slide deck", pick the layout for each slide, plus the color and the font.

Before you ask the AI, pick two things first.

  • The layout for each slide: a slide with two items and a slide with five should not look the same.
  • The color and font: a theme that suits your company or the mood of the talk.

Letting the AI use layouts and themes directly

getdeck opens its layouts and themes as an MCP server so an AI tool can search and fetch them itself. Connect it to a tool that supports MCP, such as Claude Code, and the AI is guided to find layouts and themes, pick them, and fill in each slot. It is also published in the official MCP Registry. Setup steps and the supported tools are on the MCP page. It works in tools that connect with a key, not in every AI tool. Listing layouts and themes works without a key, and fetching them needs a free key.

What changes when you use it

  • Fewer "I have seen this deck" moments. Pick the layout that matches the number of items and the same three-card slide shows up less, so slides differ from one another.
  • Less rebuilding an AI-filled deck because of formatting. Each slot has a name and a character-count hint, so you review the content instead of the format.
  • The deck matches your company from the start. Set the theme first and the AI’s output follows that color and font.

You still have things to check

A deck the AI filled in still needs a final check. Look at the sources behind the numbers, and read the titles in sequence to see whether the story holds. The point of fixing the template first is not to remove the check but to cut the fixing you do for formatting reasons when you check.

Where it does not fit

It fits people who already use an AI tool that connects over MCP, like Claude Code. If you only use a browser chat AI, connecting may be hard. In that case, picking layouts yourself in the gallery works better.
