While building My Theme and My Templates I read the public help pages and pricing of Pitch, Gamma, Canva and others. This compares how many colors you enter, when contrast warnings appear, where an AI-made deck ends up, and presenter mode, including what we do not have.
My Theme turns three colors (background, text, accent) plus one base theme into your own theme. Fonts and shapes come from the base theme. Only the colors are yours. My Templates lets you collect layouts into a template you keep. You can collect on the web, or save straight from an AI client such as Claude or ChatGPT over MCP. A template holds up to 25 slides. They are linked. A template references your theme, so editing the theme colors updates every template that uses it. The rest compares how similar tools handle the same problems. I read each product's help pages and pricing on September 29 and October 1, 2026. I did not sign up and use them.
The first thing you hit when making your own theme is the number of fields. In what I read:
| Tool | What you enter |
|---|---|
| SlidesAI | 5 colors (Primary, Secondary, Background, Card, Accent), 2 text colors, 2 fonts |
| Plus AI | Background and text pairs, 4 accent slots, 2 fonts, a logo. Its docs say most designs only use primary background, primary text and accent 1, and tell you to repeat a value if you are short of colors |
| Pitch | Brand colors and fonts. Change one color and every element using it changes (role slots) |
| Gamma | Background, primary, button and link, fills and outlines, heading and body text, fonts, logo, corner radius and more |
| getdeck | 3 colors (background, text, accent) and 1 base theme |
From the three colors, a rule computes card background, secondary text, borders and the text color on inverse blocks: 14 variables in total. Only the three colors and the base theme are stored. Derived values are recomputed each time a theme opens. So changing the rule updates every saved theme at once. MCP and PPTX export use the same function, which keeps the web preview and the exported file from drifting apart. I did not find a product in this round that derives a full palette from a few colors. I could not check every product, so I will not say none does.
Let people pick colors freely and some combinations will be unreadable. Tools differ on when they deal with it.
Pitch opens PPTX export from the Plus plan. Gamma exports PPTX on free, but a community post says custom fonts can break in PPTX. I found no official guarantee from either that a custom theme survives export. getdeck exports PPTX and HTML with your theme too. It reuses the coordinates measured per layout for the base theme and swaps only the colors, so whatever colors you pick, spacing, line breaks and type sizes match the base theme. If a slide could not be recolored, that is not hidden. MCP responses carry theme_not_applied, and web exports carry an equivalent response header.
Templates split more sharply on how they connect to AI tools.
| Tool | Where the result lands |
|---|---|
| Slides.com MCP | A private deck in your account. Edit and present URLs come back, and you can add, move and remove slides |
| Gamma MCP | Generates from a template, keeping its structure and swapping the content. Read tools are read-only |
| Canva in ChatGPT | Shows several drafts, you pick one and open it in Canva to keep editing |
| SlideForge | Returns a PNG preview and a signed .pptx URL. Nothing stays in an account |
| getdeck | Saved as one of your templates. A web URL comes back in the response |
getdeck's MCP has save_template, list_templates, get_template and update_template, and export_pptx accepts a template_id. The flow looks like this. Build a deck in an AI client and save it with save_template. A person fixes the text in the slots in the web editor. When the next deck is needed, the agent reads that frame with get_template and fills the same layouts and theme with new content. If it needs more slides, append_slides in update_template adds them, and past 25 it returns a slide_limit error with the room that is left. The scope is narrow. You can edit slot text only, not the HTML source, and deleting a template happens on the web only. Next to Slides.com MCP, which has more per-slide tools, that is less to reach for and fewer ways to damage a frame by accident. Pitch also published an MCP and API in August 2026. Its argument is that describing a brand in a prompt gets interpreted differently each time, so the template has to be the standard. I confirmed the API is limited to Business and Enterprise plans.
Gamma, Pitch and Slides.com all have speaker notes, a next-slide preview and a timer. That is close to a standard. getdeck's presenter mode is fullscreen, arrow keys, a slide list and Esc to leave. There are no speaker notes or timer yet. It is Pro, and the server only serves the presenting URL to Pro accounts.
| Feature | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| My Theme | Try colors with a live preview | Save |
| Collect tray, reorder | Yes | Yes |
| Save and edit templates | Pressing save shows the Pro prompt; collected slides stay | Yes |
| View and delete your templates and themes | Still possible after Pro ends, for your own | Yes |
| Web presenting, PPTX export | No | Yes |
The comparison above comes from reading help pages and pricing text. It is not hands-on use, and prices and features change.
