A kanban WIP board that stacks work items as cards across state columns (queued / in progress / blocked / done) so one screen says how much sits where right now. Each column header carries a WIP count badge, the blocked column alone is flagged with a left warning border, and a closing line at the bottom takes the bottleneck. Unlike the other process layouts, which draw a flow, it has no arrows and its axis is the present state rather than time.

Best for: Mid-sprint checks, weekly operations reviews, escalating blocked work, sharing how much a team is carrying (WIP)
Use: When one screen has to show how many items sit in each state right now and which of them are stuck. Use it for a mid-sprint check, a weekly operations review, a blocker escalation, or a WIP load update. It fits when the items have no ordering or handoff between them and each one simply rests in some state.
Avoid: Use process-swim-lane or flow-stages-4 for work that flows through stages, process-relay-handoff when the handoff boundary is the point, process-stage-gate when the passing criteria are, process-escalation-path for a severity-based reporting route, and process-raci-matrix for a split of responsibilities. Use timeline-gantt or timeline-roadmap for a schedule over a span, and timeline-phase-columns for Now/Next/Later buckets. Past five columns or four cards in one column the card copy stops reading, so group them down.
